LifeRing Secular Recovery
is an international network of support groups for people who want to live free of alcohol or other addictive drugs. LifeRing follows 3 principles: Sobriety, Secularity, and Self-Help.
- Sobriety means abstinence from alcohol and other non-medically indicated drugs.
- Secularity means that religious beliefs or none remain private to each person in LifeRing. Meetings do not use prayer, or the concept of a "higher power".
- Self-Help means that we each develop a personal recovery programme, tailored to our particular background and needs.
LifeRing's focus is on empowering the Sober Self within each of us. We encourage each member to take a strong, active role in his or her own recovery. In LifeRing meetings, people talk with each other about real-life issues, and share solutions to those issues. While this kind of open "crosstalk" discussion is often prohibited in other recovery groups, LifeRing members find the interactive sharing and participation to be healthy and supportive.
There are weekly LifeRing meetings in Dublin, Belfast, and Cork. See the Meetings page for details.
